MY INSPIRATIONS STANDARD_PROTOCOL

Five signals. The sources of everything transmitted.

Five signals. The sources of everything transmitted.

01 VIRTUAL SELF

MUSIC_NODE_001

Porter Robinson’s alter ego — a fictional AI entity transmitting from between 1999 and the Wired. Ghost Voices is the closest music has come to the literal sound of logging in. Pure Y2K trance run through a machine that dreams.

The VS aesthetic is the blueprint for Standard_Protocol: the artist as a digital entity, not a person. The set is a transmission. The decks are a terminal. The crowd is the network.

GENRE :: TRANCE / IDM / RAVE

TRANSMISSIONS :: “GHOST VOICES” / “ANGEL VOICES” / “EEAO”

INFLUENCE_LEVEL :: DIRECT_LINE_TO_WIRED

02 SERIAL EXPERIMENTS LAIN

BROADCAST_001

The source code. Chiaki Konaka wrote 13 episodes in 1998 that predicted everything — social media dissociation, digital identity collapse, god complexes in tech, the question of whether a self can exist without a body.

“The Wired is not the network. It is a layer of reality.” Konaka wrote that in 1998 and it still hasn’t been topped as a theory of what the internet actually is — not a tool, not a place. A layer of existence running underneath the physical one.

FORMAT :: 13 EP / 1998 / TRIANGLE STAFF

WRITER :: CHIAKI KONAKA

STATUS :: STILL PROCESSING

03 KEY ANIME

BROADCAST_002

Visual Arts/KEY is the counterweight to all the cold cyberpunk. Clannad destroyed me. Air destroyed me. Kanon destroyed me. They kept building the same emotional weapon and I kept walking into it.

The tension between those two poles — Lain’s digital void and Clannad’s overwhelming warmth — is the actual frequency I’m chasing. Sets that hold both. The LEDs switch from teal to red on purpose.

STUDIO :: KEY / VISUAL ARTS

TITLES :: CLANNAD / AIR / KANON / ANGEL BEATS

COMPOSER :: JUN MAEDA

RISK_LEVEL :: HIGH_EMOTIONAL_DAMAGE

04 BEATMANIA IIDX

INPUT_DEVICE_001

Seven keys and a turntable. The game that wired rhythm directly into my hands. Played at Boss Stage in Denver before it closed in 2021. That room was the real predecessor to everything I do behind the decks.

IIDX taught me that music can be played, that timing is a skill, and that the gap between hearing and doing is something you can close. That gap is still what I’m closing.

PUBLISHER :: KONAMI / 1999–PRESENT

FORMAT :: ARCADE / 7 KEYS + SCRATCH

RIP :: BOSS STAGE, DENVER CO (2021)

CURRENT :: DENON SC LIVE 4

05 MOGRA

LOCATION_001

A basement in Akihabara. 2F. The venue where anison, trance, and otaku culture collided into a specific strain of DJ culture that doesn’t exist anywhere else. kors k, DJ Shimamura — a hundred people who built their sound in that room.

Mogra is the proof that the music you’re obsessed with has a home. That there’s a physical space where it’s taken seriously, where nobody has to explain why you’re mixing Eurobeat into a Key soundtrack. Standard_Protocol is building toward that kind of room.

LOCATION :: 2F CLUB MOGRA, AKIHABARA, TOKYO

GENRE :: ANISON / TRANCE / OTAKU

ACTIVE :: 2008–PRESENT
